A few years ago, the Board of Directors decided that only formally educated assistants would be able to write the Level I Certification Exam.The ODAA has been very public regarding our plans for regulation. We anticipated that this would prompt many of those without formal training to write the Certification Exam.This has not been the case and we believe that there may be hundreds or even thousands of Ontario dental assistants without formal education or certification.The Board of Directors will have to look at this issue again and discuss the idea of “grandfathering” with the Ontario government. In the meantime, we would encourage you to suggest to your colleague that she apply to write the Certification Exam.
